Rye Rye ft. M.I.A., ‘Sunshine’

7 Oct

Is Rye Rye the new hybrid of M.I.A. and Santigold? It sure sounds like it from this jamming new single from her upcoming LP, Go! Pop! Bang! I’ll let my favorite music blog, PMA, explain the rest.

M.I.A., “XXXo” (The 2000)

Here is a club-banger of a remix of M.I.A.’s newest single, ‘XXXo’, by Italian DJs The 2000. It’s one of those takes that I would love to hear live purely for the thumping bass and great repetitive movement. And those going to Lollapalooza may get the chance to, if you vote for them: http://do312.com/remix/the-2000. Of course you can follow them on Twitter to find out more about the contest (and RT their support). You can also check out more of their sound and grab some of their remixes here.

You know this is going to blow up while I write this sentence. Listen to M.I.A.‘s newest track, ‘XXXO’:

M.I.A., “Born Free”

3 May

Ok, now that the Ginger-Geonocide video hype has blown over, I finally listened to ‘Born Free’ and it is great! M.I.A. may have done herself a small disservice by pairing the song with such a controversial video only because it distracts from the track itself. ‘Born Free’ is a stunningly simple but layered track. M.I.A. wisely samples Suicide’s ‘Ghost Rider‘ and heightens the electroclash sound that has made her (and that band) famous. She is one of the few hip hop acts that can sample punk/rock without sounding disingenuous in either genre. (Listen/Download below.)
